If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to build a website, you will most likely stumble upon the provider One.com at some point during your research. You can register domains and purchase storage space for websites and e-mails, all in one package.

The price depends on the amount of space you want, though to be honest, One.com is very generous in this regard. Every package always includes the One.com Website Builder. It gives casual users the option of creating a website without programming skills. In this review, we will find out what the website builder has to offer.

Unfortunately, unlike competitors such as Jimdo and Weebly, One.com does not offer a free plan. Instead, there is a 15-day money back guarantee. The standard duration of any plan is one year.

Pros and Cons of One.com

  • Pros
  • Cons

Pros

  • Very inexpensive

One.com offers one of the cheapest ways to get started with your own website.

  • Responsive templates

Their templates don’t only look good but are also responsive.

One.com Rating Details

Ease of use Info popup

The editor is easy to use. Elements are placed by mouse click and can then be customized.

Choice and flexibility of design (templates) Info popup

Best alternative: Wix

Modern and responsive designs are available. This enables ideal viewing conditions on mobile devices. Switching design templates is generally possible. However, in most cases, certain elements will be displaced, which means you will have to manually edit them afterwards.

Advertisement-free Info popup

There is no advertising.

Languages Info popup

The editor is entirely in English. There is no specific feature that helps you create multilingual websites.

Your own domain name (e.g. .com or .net) Info popup

The domain and an unlimited (!) number of e-mail accounts are included.

Depth of navigation Info popup

The navigation can show as many levels of hierarchy as you like.

Widgets (small tools to add extra functionality) Info popup

Adding galleries and slideshows is simple. Unfortunately, there is no “find us” widget (e.g. with Google Maps).

Mobile App Info popup

  • iOS
  • Android

One.com offers the Companion app, which doesn’t do more than showing you statistics for your website. The website editor does work on tablet devices (via your web browser) but the editing experience is far from ideal.

E-Commerce Info popup

For $16.99 per month you have a no-frills online store that integrates seamlessly into your website. The range of features is very basic but offers everything you need for a small store. Payments processing is available via Stripe (credit card), Paypal and manual payment methods. The store uses SSL encryption.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Info popup

Customizing page titles, page descriptions and page URLs are all possible. Experts can even create 301 forwarding protocols by using .htaccess.

Blog

The blog is created in a separate editor. Unfortunately, the available designs are a letdown. A mobile optimized version is generated for visitors on mobile devices. A simple commenting feature is included. We would not recommend this for ambitious bloggers.

Visitor statistics Info popup

There is a rudimentary tool for gathering statistics, but we would recommend using Google Analytics.

Contact form

Contact forms can be implemented and customized.

Password protection & member areas Info popup

There is no simple password feature. This can only be accomplished by generating an .htpasswd file.

Newsletter tool Info popup

To get the benefits of a newsletter, you will have to use a third party provider.

Add HTML code Info popup

Code can be added by using widgets. Experts can edit the source code directly.

Storage space

15 GB+

Incredibly generous. May be extended up to 2 TB. Unlimited traffic (download pages, however, are not allowed).

Backups & Restore Info popup

Using their backup functionality you can download a copy of your site. However, you can’t restore the site back to a specific point. If you need to restore, contact support, they have a 14-day copy of your site.

Support

  • FAQ
  • Chat
  • Email
  • Telephone

FAQ, introductory video, live chat, e-mail. Support quality was relatively weak in our tests.

Fun Factor Info popup

The website tool is solid and feels businesslike. Once you get used to the interface, creating a website is simple.

Overall Rating

3.4

One.com is a solid website builder that is interesting for very small pages with up to 5 pages. Publishing larger sites is relatively expensive, unfortunately.

One.com Review Conclusion

One.com’s Website Editor makes it possible for beginners to create a website on a budget. Should you make a mistake somewhere along the road, you can always reverse your last couple of steps. The live support chat was very helpful during our review and could answer any open questions we had.

The low price does, however, reflect the limited feature set behind One.com’s Website Builder. If you need an online store, you can add one for an additional cost. The blog is also not an integral part of the website builder, but has to be added instead through a somewhat complicated process. But the biggest restriction is the page limit – using the regular website builder you can only publish five pages. Should you need more you’ll have to purchase Website Builder Premium. This increases the price to a level that is similar to Weebly and Jimdo, which offer much more advanced products.

If none of these issues bother you, however, this is an excellent choice to create modern, simple websites with text, images, and a contact form without too much effort.

Tip: Should their site builder not be up to your standards, you can run a proper WordPress site at the same low price at One.com.
